[9.22.04] Safari Jungle Monthly Decibel Festival Prefunk
September 22 – Decibel Festival Prefunk! $3
Clever [Offshore/Microcosm/BBS, NYC]
Troubled Waters CD release party!
Clever was turned on to the sounds of Drum & Bass while taking a semester abroad in London. He began djing soon thereafter and after graduation landed a residency at one of the only bi-weekly drum and bass parties in Connecticut. When he decided he needed a change, he moved to NYC and began working at Breakbeat Science.
NYC and Breakbeat Science opened up new doors, and Clever earned a residency at Aerophobia, a weekly party dedicated to deeper forms of Drum & Bass that often did not get as much exposure as they should. The night lasted for eight months, and though it ended, it was successful enough to incite Clever to begin doing another night, Push, devoted to deep and soulful Drum & Bass in conjunction with his partner and co-worker, Ezekiel.
Push began in April of 2001 and became a haven for deep, soulful and groovy Drum & Bass. The night hosted guests such as DJ Addiction, Double A (Dune), Pieter K, Juju and Kaos (Atlantiq), and is sponsored by Circa Footwear and Apparel. In early 2002, Push took a hiatus, but only to return for most of 2003. The second coming hosted such guest as Seba, Stakka, Mathematics, Submerged, Sileni, Controlled Substance(Illformants), 0=0 and the Burner Brothers.
Although Push ended, Clever can still be heard spreading a wider range of Drum & Bass at various New York City parties. His sets have graced such cities as San Francisco, Vancouver, Boston, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Kansas City, Springfield, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Ithaca, Syracuse and even London. Clever can often be heard on various Internet radio shows as well, with residencies on Canadas Unwind Radio and NYCs Agents Over America.
At this point, Clever focuses mainly on his label, Offshore Recordings. The label in conjunction with DJing led to a series of features and interviews. Highlights include- a Sept 2002 set in London at Technicality, a feature in Rinse Magazines May/June 2003 issue, a Top Five on Drum & Bass Arena in Feb 2004, an interview and guest mix in Feb 2004 on Flights BBC Radio 1xtra show, a label profile in XLR8Rs March 2004 issue, a feature in Germany's De:bug magazine and web features/interviews on Canadas Urbnet.com, Swedens Spectraz.com and Icelands Breakbeat.is. Numerous release reviews can also be found in XLR8R, Knowledge, ATM, Breakin Point, BPM, URB, DJ Mag, Fact and Touch, to name a few.
Through hard work and determination, Clever has secured a future for Offshore Recording with worldwide distribution through ST Holdings, collaborations with Ohm Resistance and Klutes Commercial Suicide label and a web presence at
http://www.offshore-recordings.com. Boasting a roster that includes the work of such great producers as Alaska, Alpha Omega, Anemone, ASC, Clever, Deep Blue, Echo, Fanu, Frature + Neptune, Graphic, Intex Systems, Justice, Mav & Twister, Nucleus, Paradox, Pieter K, Seba, Sileni, Slide and Tundra- 2004 looks to bring bigger and better things for the label as it gains more recognition and acclaim.
Clevers production can be heard on the first Offshore release, a label that he began. Clever has also paired with Morgan Packard under the alias Tundra. The second Offshore release highlights their work together. Clever looks to pair with others in the near future for more releases on both the Offshore imprint and more. His mixing credits include two compilations for Moonshine Music. The first entitled "Xperience Drum & Bass" hit stores in Sept 2002 and the follow up "Total Drum & Bass" saw release in April 2003. Both consist of music from the Breakbeat Science catalog and the second boasts two tracks from Offshore. 2004 showcases two more mixes from Clever. The first- a mix to be included with the highly successful Ohm Resistance/Offshore Split 10 Inch subscription series and the second- a 15 track Offshore mix titled "Troubled Waters" on NYCs Single Cell Music.

Psidream [barcode,TOV,DSCI4,bbs,nvision,habit, Vancouver . BC]
Everyone respects an artist who shows true dedication to his craft. Psidream, a.k.a. Jeff Malcolm, is one such individual. A true drum & bass aficionado, Psidream has immersed himself in the genre, and through tireless effort is fast emergin as prolific producer.
A producer first a foremost, Psidream began creating tracks before he even took to DJ'ing. With a background consisting of eight years of training in both classical and jazz piano, he's well schooled in the nature of music as fine art. This fact is evident in both his track selection during mix sets and his talent for constructing his own tunes.
Defining Psidream's style isn't exactly easy. Like any worthwhile producer, he hasn't limited himself to one particular sound; his broad spectrum of releases range from airy dreamscapes to menacing tracks exuding psychic malevolence. What listeners can count on is his love of drum & bass and attention to detail making each production rock solid.
Release-wise, Psidream has a ton of material on the way. A 12" on Barcode (Renegade Hardware sub-label) with Mechwarrior has been smashed on the dancefloor by A-Sides, DJ Loxy, DJ Friction, Concord Dawn and many others. DSCI4 #017 sees a collaboration with Mechwarrior on the a-side and a solo effort on the b-side - both tunes receiving similar attention. Releases on Skynet's nVision imprint, Habit Recordings, and Evol Intent Recordings are on the way, not to mention past releases on labels like Breakbeat Science, Stakka's Payload imprint, Nerve Recordings, and more. Two Psidream tracks were also featured on DJ Dara's "Breakbeat Science: Exercise.01" mix CD, to critical acclaim.

NW Film Forum (new May 2004)
A four-day, multiple venue festival exposing the Northwest to both the international and regional electronic music scene. It is my hope with NWEMF to educate as well as entertain through workshops, a film festival (just added), seminars, open discussion, comfortable venues, excellent sound, exciting performances, interesting visuals and a diverse selection of quality electronic music.
The festival will focus on no predominant electronic music genre, but instead focus on the similarities that unite all electronic music (synthesis, technology, dance, urban post-industrial culture, digital art). This to me is the central theme of the NWEMF and I firmly believe the only way a city like Seattle could successfully pull a festival like this off is if everyone united as a collective group.
Considering the amount of talented producers, label owners, DJs, performers I know through out the Northwest I would like to give them an opportunity to get some well deserved recognition along side artists that have (perhaps) influenced them. This will be the “regional” theme that I hope to convey.
