Godfather of rave & creator of PLUR

-Frankie Bones, often termed the "Godfather" of the rave scene, has spent more than two-thirds of his life devoted to electronic music. He got a start earlier than most; at only eleven years of age Bones had what he deems his first true experience in 'clubbing.' Every Saturday from that fateful day in May 1978 until 1982, Bones went to Roll-A-Palace, a roller-skating rink in Brooklyn with a dancefloor and "forward thinking" DJs, as he puts it. "There [I] learned the basic concepts of how to format music from being a regular patron on a weekly basis." By the summer of 1979, at the age of twelve, Bones had already wired two turntables to the same stereo to enable him to start the next record while the one playing faded out. "My father found a box called a 1-4 Audio splitter which was a mixer with four slides marked Audio 1-4 and that was it. The art of mixing came by accident when I took two 45s of "Good Times" and extended the chorus. My BSR turntables had no pitch control so matching the beat of the same song was easy."

His legendary STORMraves in Brooklyn in the '90s have earned him the reputation as a pioneer of rave culture. "Frankie Bones introduced raves by throwing a series of big underground parties. They were known as the STORMraves. Many promotors give Bones credit as the founding father of raves in America. It was at one of these Storm Raves that Bones gave a very important speech after one of his very powerful sets. He explained what the scene was about and why he had brought it to NY: peace, love, unity, and respect. When he finished everybody in the warehouse waved their hands in the air in complete unity. For many it was the most beautiful speech anyone has ever heard," says one attendee. From Prodigy to LTJ Bukem to Carl Cox, some of the best talent to emerge in the global scene has attributed Bones as an inspiration. Playing cutting edge music without gimmicks or limitations, Bones does not follow trends or try to create them. "I do not go for a look or a style," he says. "Fashion goes in and out of style; passion and dedication never go out of style. I love what I do and I have loved what I have been doing."

An international DJ legend, Bones was not only the only American DJ to play the original U.K. circuit during the summers of '88 and '89, but played Berlin's infamous Love Parade in 1997, after his tracks influenced 1990 and 1991's Love Parade themes: "The Future is Ours" and "My House is Your House." Spreading his influence at home and abroad, Bones has also lent his inspiration and renown to motion pictures and literature documenting the electronic music scene. The films "Modulations", "Better Living Through Circuitry" and "Maestro", in which Bones appears, secure him as a pioneer in this culture, while the books "Rave America" and "Generation Ecstasy", go into detail about how Bones' STORMraves paved the way for the Mid-west scene as well as the rest of the country.

Now years after the STORMraves, Frankie stands as an army of one in a war against commercialism. His weapon of choice is 2 Technics 1200s and his 12"s are his ammunition - committed to cutting the B.S. out of his music (when you take the B.S. out of B.O.N.E.S., what are you left with? - ONE). His latest CD, a mix of all original tracks, does just that. As true to his roots as ever, Bones, an astute philosopher and a true New Yorker, says, "I am an army of one, and if I call you son, realize I am just having fun. So salute a soldier and pay attention 'til my lesson is done. You may learn something."

Many of the styles from your favorite upcoming dj’s and seasoned vets today have been inspired from this master of the turntables. He is a DJ that has taught respected junglists, hip hop turntablist, techno artists and undoubtedly hard house dj’s around the country. Jeff Heart’s name is synonymous with the mention of club and rave entertainers along with the venues that support them and has been a positive staple for the dance music community for over 16 years.

From performing live on 4 turntables and two mixers at countless party massives, all the way down to playing for the smallest social crowds in an up close and personal environment, Jeff has touched the heart of almost everyone we know with his magic behind the decks (and his fun personality out in front of them).

Aside from putting on performances that are some of the most anticipated sets of any event, he has also given Philadelphia an outlet for high output sound systems and lighting shows that are among some of the most prestigious quality set-ups in the city. Starting in 1996, ICON diligently rose through the ranks of the San Francisco underground at a time when female DJs and promoters were few. In the time since, ICON has also gained success in radio and television in addition to rocking dancefloors worldwide. Reverb was an important focus point in San Francisco DJ culture until its doors closed in 2007.

So what's next for DJ ICON? A promising slate of productions and collaborations are on the way; and if the last decade has proven anything, 2008 will continue to bring big things from this exciting and versatile performer.

Im announcing and booking out most of our events very early this year. Reason for this is am graduating college this year so school work is pretty crazy. With the shows booked and out of the way I can concentrate more on my senior studio, thesis and final classes.
