Bonfire Aliens?

There's this guy with tattoos all over his face, and a cohort punker female, who manage the bonfires at some of the NW venues. The last one they were as was Midsummer Night's Dream in Eugene, then again at last night's Illuminated Forrest (though the forest rangers said no-go on the fire, so their sticks didn't get put to use, and they ended up sleeping early, I think).

I've seen them once before, but have never seen them actually talking to anyone, and I've never met either of them face to face.

One of my friends told me she's met the guy with the tattoos on his face, and remembered his eyes were freakishly intense, and that he was "totally gone". They claim they're from another dimension, sent to earth on some kind of mission, and that they are not actually real (?!).

Anyone ever meet these people face to face? I'd love to hear your story.

The fire tenders are Bedouin and Fey (not their real names... no one knows their real names). I consider them friends and help them out with fire tending (it's called the "XLR8R"), though I don't believe in the whole alien-from-another-dimension thing (that stuff actually disturbs me a lot, but to each their own). They are very convinced about these beliefs, though, and firing up the xlr8r at various parties is part of the "mission". They are actually super friendly and will talk your ear off if you go up and ask about the fire, but they won't leave the fire all night to initiate conversation. They have a weakness for coffee and junk food, so give them some next time you see them

They are nomads from the Bay Area and New Mexico psychedelic trance scene, moved up to Portland last year, and usually you'll see them at our local psytrance parties. They've branched out to do fires at other parties that include psytrance but other forms of music too, which is why you've seen them at Midsummer Night's Dream.

I like them. They are super fun to talk to, great sense of artistic style, and they work hard to set up amazing structures for outdoor parties. Sometimes I can only handle them for so long, though....

I think thats crazy.

I've heard of being tweaked out on too many drugs, but to totally be convinced you're from another dimension...and two of them together? And functioning normally in society??

I say these individuals deserve some scientific study. Let's get their blood tested and see if they've been taking one too many tabs...

I am, however, dying to talk to them, as I find this whole thing to be utterly facinating. What venue do you suppose I may find them at next, oh knowledgeable Wingnut?

And were you ever at the lorax last two years? I met a girl many moons ago called wingnut, though she wore glasses. She had too many bracelets, and as it was my first tekno party, she kindly donated some to me. Is this the same one?

The fire IS their mission, so I suppose each party advances it. Like I said, I'm not too into the woo woo myself, but I sure love having a bonfire to dance around (especially when the nights are hella cold, like it was at Midsummer)
I think they'll be at Earth Dance next (9/15) or Goa Gil (9/23). Fire or not, I'm sure the parties themselves will blow up! ; )

Yup! I used to go to almost every Lorax party in 2004-2005, before I got too broke to travel down to Eugene all the time. I don't wear QUITE as many bracelets as I used to, but most people would still say I wear too many. Hehe. I do wear glasses, but take them off if I know I'm being photographed.

I love Eugene!!

BTW, I totally remember you, just looked at your picture. I was the drunken raver with a...white shirt, I believe, and I kept screaming "WINGNUT!!!!" whenever I perchanced to see you. No surprise, your response was always "WHAT?!?!"

If I were an alien, and considering I had the technology to get to this planet from a different one...I would probably spend my time doing more important things than just tending fires at rave parties.

This reminds me of one time I was riding a bus. There were 3 goth kids. One of them asked another,"Do you know how to cast any spells?"

The other replied, "I am working on a few right now...how about you."

"Yeah...it's sort of beginner stuff..."

And then I thought to myself, "Dang...If I knew any magic, WHY WOULD I BE RIDING THE BUS?????"

recognised them from the center space......

they are a little out there......but it doesnt bother me.....a LOT of people are.

either they misunderstood the use of spells or you did, because its more ritualistic and a use of energy rather than magic as you might htink of it. Sounds like they were wiccan, and i seriously doubt they thought they could do major works like bringing down buildings or becoming rich.

We will have an xlr8r at Fire this weekend.
The xlr8r is a centralized dance fire, meant to circulate the energy of the dance floor. We are bringing ritual back into trancedance. We do not do fires at "rave parties", only at intentional psytrance events, or at events with a psytrance stage.

hrmmm...I can't resist. What does "circulate the energy of the dance floor" mean? Because when there are fires at parties, it seems to draw the energy away from the dance floor. People just end up sitting around the fire to keep warm.

And would you do a fire at an un-intentional psytrance party? And why only psytrance?

Fey and Bedouin are cool peeps. Yeah, they may have a somewhat kooky "mission" (to others) but I dig their energy. The comment about Bedouin's "freakishly intense" eyes was pretty funny. I actually think he has pretty puppy-dog eyes.

Fey is an amazing dancer; she doesn't hold back at all....its awesome!

The xlr8r is a centralized DANCE fire for DANCING around, not sitting. It makes it extreamly hard for people to dance around the fire when people are sitting around it. It is also extreamly hard for us to tend the fire when people are sitting around it. We welcome all to come and dance around the fire. We are at a DANCE event, so why do people come to sit around a DANCE fire? Keep warm by DANCING. If you are new to the xlr8r, please understand and respect that it's purpose is for dancing around, not sitting. It is a sacred, ceremonial fire. If everyone is dancing around it, the energy is circulated. People don't sit in the middle of the dance floor do they? Usually we try to provide a second fire for chilling out and sitting around.
