At least seven people were killed in a shooting this morning at a home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Police said one of the dead was the gunman.
At around 7 a.m. a man walked into a blue rental home in the 2100 block of East Republican Street and opened fire, killing six people. More than a dozen people who attended the party were relaxing inside after a late night party when the shooting happened, said Seattle police spokesman Rich Pruitt.
When officers confronted the gunman he "turned the weapon on himself," Pruitt said.
The man shot himself in the head with a shotgun. He was armed with several handguns, Pruitt said.
Three people injured in the shooting were taken to Harborview Medical Center, Pruitt said. The uninjured partygoers were loaded into buses by police and taken to a "warm, secure spot," Pruitt said.
"We're interviewing close to 20 witnesses — some from the house, some from surrounding areas," Pruitt said.
News tips
If you have information about the shooting, call The Seattle Times at (206) 464-2144 or email us at newstips@seattletimes.com. Please include your contact information.
Nancie Thorne, whose 15-year-old daughter, Suzanne, was in the house at the time of the shooting got a call from her daughter's boyfriend this morning.
"It's the worse phone call a mom can get," Thorne, said, adding that she went to the home after getting the call.
She said she doesn't know where Suzanne currently is.
The girl, Jesse Mullens, Suzanne's 18-year-old boyfriend, and another friend had gone to what Thorne called a "zombie rave" in downtown Seattle last night.
It appeared to be a sanctioned event, she said. They purchased tickets. Her daughter told her she thought it was at Studio Seven, a rock club south of Seattle's Sodo district.
Mullens told Thorne that after the rave, they went to a house on Capitol Hill for an after-party. As the couple and their friend were preparing to leave, he told Thorne, the gunman arrived and barged into the house. Suzanne had gone back inside, possibly to get something.
Mullens told Thorne he heard a lot of gunshots. He thought Suzanne was stuck somewhere in the house with the shooter between her and the door.
"She shouldn't have gone to the rave. I've never approved of those things," Thorne said. "The young kids just don't get it. I just hope to God she's alive," she said crying. "And if she is, she's grounded for life."
Thorne said Mullen was taken by police with a large group of people to a police precinct and she has not been able to reach him again.
Charles Jackson, who lives two doors down from the home, said he was "just getting out of bed and I heard 'boom, boom.' "
"By the time I got out there was one more shot fired," said Jackson, 67.
Jackson put on his clothes and saw a man lying on a sidewalk who appeared to be shot.
Jackson, who has lived in the neighborhood 40 years, describes the area as relatively quiet.
He said he's seen young people with facial piercings and heavy makeup walking around recently. He believes they're connected to the rental home.
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels spent a portion of the morning surveying the neighborhood.
"Our thoughts are with the people at Harborview and with the victims of this senseless violence," Nickels said. "It's a terrible tragedy, we don't have incidents like this in this city very often."

Everyone OK?
edit: holy shit. this is a fucking block away from my apartment. there was police tape blocking off most of the street when i walked by. fucking surreal.

Here we go again... people die and the name 'rave' gets magically attached to it, like a stigma. THIS HAPPENED AT A HOUSE, NOT THE CLUB MENTIONED!!! G-D! I hate the fucking media.

WTF is a "zombie rave"?
It's a dead man's party
Who could ask for more
Everybody's comin', leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door . . .
Poor kids. I hope that mom found out where her daughter was and I hope she's ok.

WOW. Since I live a block away, I went to the party last night. This is just horrible. I hope everyone finds out about their friends and loved ones soon.
I'm sure everyones thoughts are with those that died.

Seattle, you better realize this is going to have a profound effect
on the cities thoughts about the rave culture. Now that there some
dead kids to look at, your local gov is going to be all over your asses.
They are either going to limit the amount of parties that can get permits,
they my make promoter responsible for the venue, they might put age restrictions
on parties, or they might just put a temp hold on all raves outside nightclubs venues.
Or the worst, put an end to raves for a long period of time.
What I think you kids need to do is get ahold of a media source. Have them interview
the community which had a hand in the party.
And have an interview to discuse how problems like this will always arise-unfortunate-,
but this problem was not because of a rave party.
It was because someone lost their selfcontroll.
Don't spin the story to make the shooter look bad.
It's just an unfortunate event that had nothing to do with the word or activity of "raving".
Spred this word to the elders, don't let the m cut up your scene
because of one accident.
We should also have a memorial for any of the kids who where shot,
make it a big memorial!
I could be wrong of the party having to do nothing with the shooting.
It's unfortunate these things happen. We just have to work though it
together, as a community!
EDIT: That is the best party flier I've ever seen, since 92'

holy crap I haven't been to this board in ages, and what horrid circumstances, but I'm worried. ugh.
The times is updating their story often, check this for the latest:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...hooting25.html
It nows says the shooter was at annika's party at some point, and gives the name of a renter of the house. If anybody knows anything, I think it goes without saying they need to contact the SPD.

Actually.. the last thing I'm realy worried about right now is 'the scene'. I'm a little bit more concerned with the phone calls and IMs coming in to me this morning and me trying to make sure my friends are all still breathing.
Though maybe not a direct connection to the HHC party last night, the three people I saw on the news were all at the HHC party. The house is rented by people involved with 'the scene'. And people I knew going to the house have been involved with 'the scene' for a long time. Regardless of if it was connected to the HHC party or not - it is connected to 'the scene'.
It's been awhile since I've gone to a party. It's been an extremely long time since I've been on this board. Frankly, it wasn't 'the scene' being in danger that got me here. I'm only here because this place spews gossip, and I'm hoping to find out anything I can about what happened last night.
That being said. My thoughts to the victims, and the friends and family of those victims. At this point, I very well could be on that list of friends and family.
Thanks for your concern about 'the scene'. way to focus on the issues.
